Meet Tess Giordmaina, our Director of Studies at Cavendish Malta

Please tell us about yourself

Hi, I’m Tess and I’m the Director of Studies at Cavendish School of English, Malta.
I have been teaching English since 2006, after I earned my BA (hons) in Tourism management. Since then, I have taught General and Business English, at different levels, ranging from elementary to an advanced level of English, to adult students from various parts of the world, not only in Malta, but also in Germany. In March 2010 I earned a First Certificate for Teachers of Business English, issued from the LCCI (London Chamber of Commerce and Industry). In February 2013, I joined Cavendish School of English Malta, after completing my DipTesol from Trinity Guildhall London.

Apart from teaching I’ve also worked in South Carolina and Orlando Florida hotels in customer care and guest relations. I have an overall interest in foreign languages and have taken courses in Italian, German, and Spanish. Apart from walking my dog, my main hobbies are cooking, reading, travelling and shopping!

What do you like most about your job?

I have learnt that teaching is all about sharing knowledge and facilitate learning, and I have to admit that I love it. It is always interesting meeting and teaching students from all over the world and be part of people’s learning experience. This could be challenging sometimes but it keeps me on my toes. Our school is a fantastic place, with a great teaching team, welcoming atmosphere, lovely building and helpful people. We are all very dedicated to our jobs and to offering the highest quality in English language teaching. I am very proud of this school and everyone who works here.

How are the lessons structured at Cavendish Malta?

At Cavendish Malta we offer several courses, such as General English, Business and Medical English, Exam courses, such as IELTS, FCE and CAE. We also offer private lessons, which can be carried out at the school but also via Skype.

At Cavendish School of English Malta, the classes are small and intimate, typically between 6 and 10 students, and never more than 12 within the class. General English programs are designed for students of almost all levels who want a good foundation of English in a wide variety of language areas. The course provides a balanced programme, focusing on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, whilst covering essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language. The main aims of our English language courses are to help students communicate well in everyday situations within an English-speaking environment.

Why would you recommend the students to study in Valletta and why in our school?

Valletta is unique in many ways; I always say it’s like an open-air museum. It’s a charming city and everything can be easily reached on foot. There are a lot of little pubs, cafes, restaurants and various shops which will surely keep you busy. However you like to spend your free time there’s always plenty to do in Valletta.

Our School; the first word that comes to mind is Family. Being a small school we have created this family atmosphere where we take a keen interest in the welfare of our students and we want them to feel at home away from home. Apart from that our teachers are very helpful and professional. They offer students the necessary support and guidance to help them achieve their objectives.
We look forward to teaching you and welcoming you to our school and also the beautiful Island of Malta.
